US: FLOODS RETURN TO DAKOTAS

   Under the banner, "Let Us Rebuild," the Dakotas Annual Conference is preparing for imminent spring flooding.  Floods are a major threat each spring in the northern Great Plains, the product of saturated and frozen ground, snowmelt, rain and flat terrain.  After record flooding in North and South Dakotas last year, UMCOR provided training for the Dakotas Annual Conference to help prepare to meet the floods in 2010.

UM Communications Impact Community

   This is the progression of the previous Matching Grant program and will partner with church clusters, districts and conferences to reach beyond their church buildings and actively engage with community volunteers to impact their neighborhoods and towns.

Each grant awarded will associate with an Impact event and once again, assist with the promoting and advertising of the event.

This new initiative is part of the Rethink Church 2010 strategy urging churches to move out into their communities, creating doors of entry to engage the unchurched.

   Haiti Earthquake, is a dedicated UMCOR web page providing the latest news and information on UMCOR's relief efforts in Haiti.

   Churches everywhere can access available Haiti resources on this special web page, which includes a church bulletin; a PowerPoint slide show; a poster; and a link to offering envelopes, which churches can use to collect a special offering for Haiti survivors.    The General Council on Finance and Administration (GCFA) has promoted United Methodist Electronic Funds Transfer (UMEFT) as a way for congregations to bring much-needed consistency to weekly offerings and to streamline church office operations.
